Clearing a core through a post-tensioned slab in Pimlico
Keyshel Interiors needed a 127 mm core through a post-tensioned slab on Belgrave Road, Pimlico. Corvus scanned the slab to clear the position, then came back and drilled the core.
The brief
Keyshel Interiors, a fit-out contractor, needed a 127 mm core through a floor slab on Belgrave Road in Pimlico. The slab was post-tensioned.
In a post-tensioned slab, steel tendons run through the concrete under very high tension. They hold the floor up. Core through one and you have cut part of the structure, and the tendon can release with real force. Coring blind was not an option.
What we did
On 24 June 2026 we ran a GPR investigation of the slab around the proposed core position. The job was to find where the tendons ran, so the core could go somewhere it would not touch one.
We located the tendons in the area, confirmed whether the proposed position was clear, and marked the result on the slab so everyone on site could see where the core could and could not go.
The core
On 3 July 2026 we came back and diamond drilled the 127 mm core ourselves.
One company scanned the slab and drilled the core. The people drilling had seen the scan, because they were the people who did it. Nothing had to be handed over between a scanning firm and a drilling firm, and nothing could be lost in between.
That scan-then-drill package is what we offer on any slab where a core or a fixing goes through structure that has to stay intact.
What the client said
“Corvus were great from start to finish. Needed a quick turnaround on a concrete survey with subsequent core hole to be drilled in a sensitive area. They attended next day and delivered their survey promptly in order for our project to stay on schedule. Highly recommend.”
