GPR Concrete Scanning in London

We're based in Canary Wharf, so London is the one city where there's no travel premium and no waiting on a surveyor coming down the motorway. It's also where ground penetrating radar earns its keep hardest — densely reinforced commercial cores, post-tensioned floors through almost every residential tower from Nine Elms to Stratford, and a listed-building fabric that rules out anything destructive. Scanning before you drill, core or cut here is the default, not the upgrade.

What we image, and with what. We run two complementary GPR technologies rather than one, because London throws up both problems. The Hilti PS 1000 X-Scan is a pulsed radar that images congested reinforcement, metal and plastic conduit, and voids in real time — ideal for marking up a busy commercial slab on the spot. The Proceq GP8000 uses stepped-frequency continuous-wave radar for higher resolution and greater usable depth on thick transfer slabs and raft foundations. Where you need cover depth or bar diameter confirmed at shallow depth — typically for compliance on a heritage or commercial element — we pair the radar with a Hilti PS 300 Ferroscan, purpose-built for ferrous detection where GPR resolution runs out. The instrument is matched to the question, not the other way round.

What the scan gives you is a depth-indicative map of what the data shows inside the slab: rebar layout, likely post-tension tendon positions, embedded services, voids and slab thickness — marked on the slab itself in paint or chalk, and supplied as a measured deliverable so your team drills into known clear zones. GPR work follows the methodology underpinning the EuroGPR Certified Surveyor scheme.

Working in London

From our Canary Wharf base we cover all 32 boroughs and the City. We hold out-of-hours and weekend slots for occupied commercial premises, where scanning has to happen around a live building. For basement, underpinning and party-wall works we scan ahead of the excavation, so the structural picture is known before anyone breaks ground.

Deliverables

  • On-slab marker plan in survey paint or chalk
  • Annotated PDF report with depths and locations
  • Digital DXF / DWG plan compatible with your CAD software
  • Photographs of marked-up areas
  • Surveyor sign-off and method statement
FAQs

London questions, answered.

Can you scan post-tension floors in the residential towers?
Yes — locating likely tendon positions before drilling is core to our pre-drill work. We mark tendon zones on the slab and supply a DXF before any penetration.
Can you work out of hours in an occupied office?
Yes. Much of our London work is evenings and weekends, scanning around live commercial space with minimal disruption.
We're forming a basement under a listed building — can you help before we excavate?
Yes. GPR is non-destructive, which is exactly what listed fabric and party-wall obligations call for; we scan ahead of the dig.
How fast can you reach a central London site?
We're in Canary Wharf — same-working-day quote, and often on site the same week.
