GPR Concrete Scanning in Glasgow

In June 2026 we scanned two shop units at Silverburn shopping centre in Glasgow for B Batch Shopfitters: an 18 metre Ferroscan and GPR strip across one unit slab, then four GPR scan areas across a second store a week later. Refits inside a live shopping centre are the Glasgow work we know best.

What we scanned and why. The shopfitter needed to fix and core into slabs the centre owns. Landlords want proof that a refit will not cut reinforcement, a tendon or a service before they allow a fixing in. On the first unit we ran an 18 m by 0.4 m strip of Ferroscan and GPR along the line of the new works. On the second we used a Proceq GP8100 and a Hilti PS 1000 across four scan areas in the store. Positions were marked on the slab before we left, so the fitters could drill to the marks.

What you get. Marks on the concrete at every position before we leave, and a report with each scan area, what was found, depth-indicative positions and the instrument used, signed by the surveyor who did the scan. A DXF comes with it where your engineer or installer needs to set out from it.

How we cover Glasgow. We are based in Canary Wharf. For Scottish jobs a surveyor travels up the day before, and travel and accommodation are itemised on the quote, so you see exactly what they add. The promises are the same as in London: a call back the same working day, marks on the slab before we leave, and the report within 5 working days.

What we find in Glasgow buildings

Glasgow's shopping centres and post-war commercial buildings are mostly reinforced concrete frames with dense mesh in the slabs, and some multi-storey centres and car parks use post-tensioned floors. In older city-centre buildings, concrete-encased steel frames and filler-joist floors can turn up. A scan tells you which you have before anyone drills.

FAQs

Glasgow questions, answered.

Can you work in a Glasgow shopping centre outside trading hours?
Yes. Most centres want intrusive work done before opening or after close. Tell us the centre's permitted hours and we plan the visit round them.
How is travel to Glasgow charged?
Travel and accommodation are separate lines on the quote, so you can see exactly what they add to the survey.
Will the centre's management accept your report?
The report records each scan area, what was found and where it was marked, signed by the surveyor who did the scan. If the centre has its own format, send it over and we will work to it.
