Rebar mapped and marked on a Brighton roof slab

MH Construction needed the reinforcement in a roof slab on Buckingham Road, Brighton, mapped and marked before steelwork was fixed to it. Corvus scanned each position with Ferroscan and GPR and marked the bars on the concrete.

The brief

MH Construction were working on a building on Buckingham Road in Brighton. New steelwork was going onto the roof, fixed into the concrete slab. Before anyone drilled, the structural engineer needed to know where the reinforcement sat at each fixing position, and the steel erectors needed to know where they could drill.

What we did

We attended on 2 October 2026 and came back on 6 October for the second part of the roof.

At each position we taped a scan grid to the slab and scanned it with a Hilti PS 300 Ferroscan for bar layout and cover, and a Hilti PS 1000 X-Scan for a wider picture of what was in the concrete.

We then marked the bars on the concrete in spray paint around each position, so the fixings could be set out clear of the reinforcement.

What the client received

Marks on the slab at every position before we left, and the scan record for the engineer’s assessment.
