FAQ

Can GPR find plastic pipes?

Often, yes. Plastic cannot be energised for an electromagnetic locator, which is why GPR is the second method. It struggles in wet clay and made ground.

An electromagnetic locator needs a metal pipe or a signal. Plastic water and gas pipes give it nothing to find. Ground-penetrating radar detects the contrast between the pipe and the ground around it, so it can often find them.

GPR performs worse in wet clay and made ground, and the drawing states what was and was not detected. See GPR utility survey.
